If you haven't watched this movie could you please go straight to a Red Box, find it and watch it. It was ridiculous & absurd and I loved it. I saw a commercial a while ago for it but knew nothing about it. In the commercial, when Scott Pilgrim kissed the girl cartoon hearts and kisses came out of their mouths and flew around their heads. That alone looked funny to me and I wanted to see it. Then Michelle told me she saw it and liked it but wasn't sure if I would. She also told me about the guy's names in the band. One is named Stephen Stills and the other is named Young Neil. That did it. I had to see it. I saw it last Saturday. It's part movie, comic book, and video game. The very first opening line that came on the screen made me laugh. I was sold on it before one word was said. I love that when it happens. I felt like that about The Simpson's movie when the kid opens the movie by singing The 20th Century Fox theme song. I laughed so hard in the movies at that part. Very hard, I'm afraid. But, it made me so happy because I knew I was in for a good time. And that's how I felt at the beginning of this movie. I knew I was in for a good time.
Scott dreams about a girl, and then suddenly he sees her. She's real. He is 22 years old but has an adoring high school girlfriend. The girl of his dreams shows up, so he has to find a way, to break up with his adoring high school girlfriend. He also has to slay the Seven Evil Ex-es of the girl of his dreams. He has a funny older sister, and also a funny gay roomate. There is some gay humor, so be forwarned. Without saying anymore, or giving anything away, I'll say no more. Just trust me and watch it. I think you'll love it, or at least like it and I'm sure you'll laugh at it. I only wish I had seen it in the theater.

Ok, and here is something funny in the movie.
He has the wost hair. It's awful. The whole time you watch it you wonder what's up with his hair.
It turns out he's been cutting it himself.
(Which was hilarious to me...no wonder it looks so awful.) But, whenever anyone says something about his hair, the moment later, the very next scene, you see him with a hat on.
Not a regular hat, like a baseball cap or anything, but a Keep The Cold Out-Ear Flap-Cap!
See!!!!! Funny. Ridiculously funny. My kind of humor.
My ridiculous, aburdist, most people think is dumb, but I think is hilarious kind of sense of humor!
Watch it. I know you'll love it because most of you have the same ridiculous, absurdist, most people think is dumb but I think is hilarious kind of sense of humor, too.
It sounds hilarious. Im sorry Ive been absent from comments. Busy busy dizzy dizzy chasing my kids at Mom and Pops. Im going to redbox this tommorow. It sounds like a perfect movie to watch in sg.
Catherine,
Let's stay up late tomorrow and watch it! E
LOL I am so glad you blogged about this! It's a funny story because a few months before it came out, I got an email from a movie theater near our house asking if I wanted to Pre-Screen a movie. They don't tell you what movie it is, but they tell you what "type" it is. I thought it would be fun to see a movie months before it is actually released. My friend bailed on me, and I still wanted to go-so I went by myself. It was SO much fun. You have to go through a security check, no cell phones allowed, and once inside-they announce the movie title. When they announced Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World everyone clapped! I had no idea what it was, but loved it. :) I always love Michael Cerra. After the movie is over, they turn on the lights, and you feel out a questioneer about the movie.
Have you ever been to a Pre-Screening?
Katie,
How lucky. I would love to go to a Pre-screening.
How fun to go and be surprised and see this movie.
I'm so glad you loved it.
I thought it was so funny and absurd and fun.
Michael Cera is hilarious.
I thought the first half of the movie was better than the latter. I got a little tired of the fight scenes. But, it was still a good movie.
I'm so glad you saw it and know what I'm talking about. I even went and rented it again tonight.
Erin and Catte,
Please rent it and watch it tomorrow night.
You'll like it. I wish we could all watch it together.
If you lived by me, I'd force you both into being my movie buddies. I tried to make Laurie and Tracy be my movie buddies, but they like action movies so it just didn't work out! I need an absurdist movie buddy. Ok, have a great day tomorrow and know that I wish I were there!
Alright, so you know I am not a movie lover at all so take my opiion with a grain of salt. After reading this I sent Seth to Redbox to pick this up, since I copy everything you do. We watched it, and I totally didn't get it? I feel like that a lot with movies (like Napoleon Dynamite for example), like there is some big joke that I am not in on. Oh well, I will still continue to copy you.
Juuuullliiiiieeeee,
That was so nice of you to try!!!
I wasn't sure if you would like this. I know I have a quirky sense of humor.
Sometimes, I have to watch a movie a couple of times and then I like it even more.
I thought this movie was so funny--the premise--of a 22 year old dating a 17 year old because it's simpler, easier for him was funny. Just the printed words on the screen of, "Not so long ago....made me laugh because most movies that begin like that say, "A long time ago..." I laughed when he tells his friends that they do many things together..."We ride the bus together, hold hands at the park."
What about when Knives tells him she's never even kissed a guy, and he looks at her solemnly and says, "Neither have I."
No??? Not funny? I thought there were so many funny lines. I'm sorry you didn't think it was funny but you were so nice to rent it and try!
Tell me a movie you love. Tell me some of the movies you think are funny.
I bought East of Eden a few days ago and am planning to read it.
Also, Napolean Dynamite I had to watch twice then I thought it was funny.
How do you feel about Nacho Libre? People love that movie but I didn't love it.
We both love School Of Rock. I remember we both loved that one.
All right, we'll have to try again and find something we can both like together!
I think if we watched Scott Pilgrim together you would have liked it! Whenever someone doesn't think a part is funny that I loved, I rewind it and we watch it again and again until they think it is.
(Really. Then I end up cracking up so hard over it every time, that so does the person who didn't even think it was funny because I'm laughing so hard. Sometimes it takes 5 hours to get through a movie! Poor Laurie. One of my friends thinks that when I tell about a funny movie-it is actually funnier than the scene in the movie because I'm laughing so hard I can barely say the words to explain why it's so funny.
Anyway, sorry we struck out with this one.
We'll try again.
Maybe I am just a tough customer. Just today I saw a commercial for a new movie about an alien named Paul and almost threw something at the TV. I shouted out, "who is making movies these days", and Seth cracked up laughing, because he could see how disgusted and annoyed I was. I do like old movies, and yes I did like School of Rock. I like your analysis of the movie better than the movie itself, so maybe I would have laughed if you had been there to help me find the funny? I really rarely watch movies though, so don't take it personal. I watched 500 Days of Summer at your recommendation as well and that is one of the few movies I have liked in recent years.
I saw that commercial too and hated it.
It looks disgusting and stupid.
I can't believe someone would write stuff like that, let alone be able to sell it, or find an audience for it.
I know you already know I love to watch movie at the movies. I rarely do at home, but we rented this and The Littles were the ones watching it, but I was drawn to it immediately and had to sit down and watch it with them.
I loved 500 Days of Summer, and thought it was clever. I'm so glad you liked that one. I saw the movie Rabbit Hole a few weeks ago and really liked it. It's a depressing subject, but it was good and had some amusing moments.
On my list for this week is The Illusionist which is a
cartoon--a foreign cartoon but it looked interesting.
I'm sure I'll blog about it if it turns out to be good.
Are you still doing the blog challenge?
I hope you are. I keep checking to see what's next.
Leslie,
I love this movie. Ask Rosie, I have been on a Scott Pilgrim kick for a month now. I made Rosie watch it a couple of times. I already downloaded the soundtrack and told Roy to go and watch it. I am so glad you liked it too.
Jackson,
I knew you'd love it. Scott Pilgrim is all I can think about these days. Annie Laurie said I'm obsessed with the movie, and she's right. I am!
You know what line made me laugh so hard, and it was completely dumb, but so funny to me? I keep repeating it because Gideon says it so astonished-ly and so angrily. "You made me swallow myyyyy Gum!!!!!!"
I know you'll understand.
We're excited for you Jack and so happy you're having a Boy. A boy, a boy, Oh Boy, a Boy!!!!
I have a card here at home for you, and a picture frame because I found the cutest picture of you with Grampa. You are maybe 4 years old and Grampa is blowing out his candles. You are right underneath him, blowing out his candles, too. It's adorable and it's been on my list to send to you. If I were better on the computer, I would have already downloaded, scanned and sent it to you.
I was wondering if you are going to follow tradition and name him Roy? Another legendary Roy Ralph Renouf. If you do, I'm voting that you call him Rick.
Another set of Jack and Rick.
But don't mind me, I'm just you're opinionated big sister giving her opinion.
Anyway, just know we are really excited for you!
If you don't go with the name Roy or Rick, how do you feel about Scott? Scott Pilgrim, the greatest, funniest movie in the world!
I love when Scott jumps through the window when Knives drops in on him unexpectedly. I also like when he is trying to break up with her on the payphone and she is describing what he is wearing and he asks her, "Why are you psychic?'
We are sticking with the tradition but we probably will follow the Grandpa tradition of calling him something else. So this will be Roy VI but we are leaning towards calling him Raphael, and Raffa for short. I like the idea when he can start to talk and you ask him his name and he says "Waffa Wenouf".
Oh, Raffa and Raphael. That sounds good. I like Waffa Wenouf. Can we call him Waffy?
Can you believe you're having a boy?
We can't wait to meet him.
I love those scenes too. I love when his friends ask when they will meet Knives and before they finish the sentence the doorbell rings. I thought they were hilarious doing that dance-dance-video game together. I also love when he stalks Ramona at the party, and what about his song he wrote??
"Raaaammmmooonnnnnaaaaa." I love when he sings it to her and it's the only word in the whole song.
What about when he only played one note in the entire song with his band? And when he said he can't hit girls...they're soft.
I liked the Seinfeld moment, too.
I loved the whole thing.
We should really get together so we can discuss this whole movie.
We need a bus trip!
As I read your dialogue with Jackson I feel even more like I just missed something. Dang it! Oh well, I am used to it, but what I really wanted to say after my comment snooping is Congrats to Jackson and Rosie. I didn't know they were expecting. How exciting!
Ahhhh!! All of these comments between you and Jackson are making me frantic to go and pick up this movie! I just know I will love it. I haven't even seen it and I'm already laughing at the parts you two have been describing. All right do I go out in blah weather to get it immediately or do I wait till Adam is driving home and make him get out in the horrible weather?! I can't decide but I must watch this movie soon!
Pick up your phone today, would ya? I'm driving this afternoon and I haven't talked to you in 17 eons. I'm temped to stay up till 2 this morning so I can squeeze in this show. What to do?
Julie,
You needed to watch this with your cousins.
We would make you think it's funny.
Maryyyyyy,
Hurry. Go and get it tonight.
I love his song...."Raaaammmmooonnnnnnaaaaa."
They play it at the end of the movie, too.
It's an easy song to learn. There's just one word.
Erin,
Finally we got a phonecall in today.
I hope you get a chance to watch this. I know you'll laugh. Maybe you and Mary can watch it on the plane. If not, watch it soon, so you can laugh about it on the plane. I cannot believe I'm not going with you. Suuper awful Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!! It's just not my year. Or last year! I think there's a curse on my head. Maybe Matt Thorn put it there! hahahaha
Julie, thanks. We are pretty excited. The little guy should be here on the first of July.
Mary and Erin go watch it tonight. It's not entirely kid friendly but it is PG-13. I loved the opening song too for Universal and I always sing the "I am so sad so very very sad song" to Rosie.
Beck sings the Ramona song at the end and it has more than one word, he says "my oh my" every once in awhile. I kinda want to watch it again tonight now.
Jack,
No wonder I love the Ramona Song.
I love Beck. I'm a huge fan of his stuff; Think I'm in love, Girl, Sex Laws. Mike can't stand him, but I love his sound. That makes perfect sense. Thanks for telling me. I need to buy this movie! I only rented it and the more we talk about it the more I want to see it again so I can memorize it!
Ohhhhh,
and I love the Sad song, and how very very sad the guy in the band looks when he says the name of his very, very sad, so sad song.
When is Roy going to watch this movie?
Jack, have we discussed The Royal Tenenbaums.
I'm pretty sure you'd love that one, too.
I haven't really given the Royal Tenenbaums the attention it deserves. I'll watch it soon.
Today Rosie sang the so sad song to me when I told her I didn't want to go to work.
Who knows when Roy will watch the movie, he is a slacker.
Jack,
You gotta watch and love The Royal Tenenbaums.
It is one of my Favorite-favorites.
I even let The Littles watch most of it and they love it. Annie Laurie quotes it all the time, and Erin Leigh prays just like the little boy in it...Ari or Uzi Tenenbaum, I forget witch one.
Even Slacker Roy loves this one. It is hilarious in an understated, absurd, ridiculous kind of way.
I love Gene Hackman in it. He does such a good job.
Can you believe I found The So Sad song on playlist?
And I even found Ramona. Annie said I'm ridiculous.
I am. I know it. I love to be!
